Job Summary The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting for approximately ½ of the agencies and departments of the Archdiocese of St. Louis and ensures accurate and timely accounting and reporting. This role manages core accounting functions, supervises accounting staff, supports the month-end and year-end close processes, and serves as a key accounting liaison for agencies and departments.
Job Responsibilities - Oversees general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash manager and reconciliations for agencies and departments assigned.
- Reviews and approves selected journal entries prepared by accounting team.
- Supports agencies, departments and staff in the various elements of the month-end and year end close. Assists in financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Participate in the department wide meetings.
- Assists Controller and Assistant Controller in the period consolidation process.
- Assists in development of budgets.
- Take active role in supporting the year end audit and ensuring staff, agencies and departments understand and embrace the process.
- Maintains and strengthens internal controls and accounting policies.
- Supervise and mentor staff, including leading frequent meetings, monitoring performance and providing feedback.
- Build relationships with agency and department leaders and other Archdiocese staff, including recommendation of best practices, internal improvements and assisting with reporting.
- Ensure that leadership is informed of key information, project status, and challenges encountered.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 4 years related experience
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
- Proven capability in a similar role, including analytical skills, technical writing, and summary of results
- Verbal and written communication skills are important in interacting with a wide variety of colleagues. Use of leading-edge communication tools will be ideal
- Technical aptitude in Microsoft Office and other commonly used software.
- Knowledge of Infor and/or Lawson accounting a plus
- Non-profit experience a plus
- Supervision experience a plus
- Willingness to travel within the boundaries of the St. Louis Archdiocese to attend meetings at agencies, offices or schools
